Wood Grades

We have 4 grades of walnut, Plain which is the least expensive, semi-fancy--has upto 20% crotch figure, fancy has 20% to 40% crotch figure, extra fancy has more than 40% crotch figure. The price range for each grade is determined by the uniformaty of the figuring on each side of the stock, For example one side of a stock might have 30% on one side and 10% 0n the other this would be considered a low end semi-fancy stock where as one with Aproximatly 20% on both sides would be a high end semi-fancy stock, I also go by the clearity and coloring of the figuring also. Know this all sounds fine and dandy and maybe even a little confusing, But what it all boils down to in the final grade is a peice of wood is worth what I think its worth. I think a fancy peice of crotch wood with good grain lines is worth more than a peice of plain wood, but I don't think the fancy stuff is worth a fortune like some other people selling stocks seem to beleive. I have never had a complaint about the quality of my products. when someone wants a fancy peice of wood to put on their gun I want them to be proud of it when it is all said and done, so I try to be very fair with the price and usually give them more than they bargain for. The percentage of figuring is determined on the area behind the pistolgrip-front of comb location, The wrist area should always have fairly straight grain for the strength.
